Setting: First Chronicles parallels 2 Samuel and serves as a commentary on it.  Written after the exile from a priestly point of view, 1 Chronicle emphasizes the religious history of Judah and Israel.

Date Written: Around 450 B.C. recording events from about 538- 450 BC (Omitting 516-458 BC) possibly begun earlier in Babylon and finished in Jerusalem
Setting: Each follows 2 Chronicle as a history of the Jewish people, recording their return to the land after the captivity.

Nehemiah PURPOSE: Nehemiah is the last of the Old Testament historical books. It records the history of the third return to Jerusalem after captivity, telling how the walls  were rebuilt and the people were renewed in their faith.

AUTHOR:  Much of the book is written in the first person, suggesting Nehemiah as the author.  Nehemiah probably wrote the book with Ezra as editor.

AUTHOR:  Unknown Possibly Mordecai (9-29) Some have said Ezra or Nehemiah because of the similarity of the writing style.
